One on One with a Revolutionist: Stacy Melich
Stacy Melich was last seen on our stage in The Doctor, The Devil & My Dad, she returns as the feminist French Revolutionary playwright, Olympe De Gouges in Lauren Gunderson’s The Revolutionists. We interviewed her about her favorite moments and why she wanted to be a part of this badass production:
Q. When you hear French Revolution your brain doesn’t automatically think comedy, but this play is indeed humorous. What line or moment always makes you giggle?
A. A line or a moment that makes me giggle? That is a tough one to pin down because I find myself giggling through most of the 1st act.
I love when Marie addresses Charlotte and says : “You’re pretty. And young. That must be fun. What are you?” You HAVE to see Park as Marie. Basically everything she says, from the moment she comes on and speaks in third person absolutely tickles me.
Q. Although funny, these women are not to be messed with. What is your character’s major strength?
A. Olympe’s major strength is also her weakness. She is able to see and write about other women who have made decisions that are not based in fear but she doesn’t see it in herself. But she went to Parliament and read her Declaration of the rights of Women and the Female Citizen!
Q. What made you want to be a part of this production?
A. 4 badass women! In one play! Women ahead of their time fighting for justice and equality! By Lauren Gunderson! Working with Heidi and 7 Stages! And the message about finding the histories that have not been told because of the HIStory that has been taught.
