7 Stages & PushPush Arts present High Risk, Baby!, an autobiofictional comedy about one woman’s outrageous reproductive journey to Ukraine, and other wild and personal reproductive stories, perspectives and prose.
Shelby Hofer’s High Risk, Baby! is a comedy about the child within the mom, being a control freak, the patriarchy, and escaping infertility. Lenora is on a mission, but her not-so-inner child is bursting with irreverent questions about DNA, ADD, quantum physics, boners, and babies — where they come from, how they get here, and mostly, how she can get one. With hilarious and maddening advice from her sex-ed teacher, the mysterious Dr. Mark, and a bunch of ill-mannered “dolls,” Lenora and her Honey board a train for a wild adventure that leads to some unexpected destinations. Directed by Ellen McQueen, written and performed by Shelby Hofer.

This hour-long performance will be followed by a collection of short pieces, hosted by Destiny Renee and Marium Khalid, in response to our bodies and the agency we have – or don’t have – in choice. Original short pieces include Hofer’s Four Embryos (a coda of sorts to her comedy High Risk, Baby!) and Theresa Davis’ What to Do When a Politician Tries to Fall into Your Vagina Feet First as well as stories from a doula, and the history of pregnancy tests. Featuring a fierce collective of performers, including podcaster Lauren Vogelbaum, doula Christy Robinson, and many more.
PLUS, join 7 Stages for Service Saturday (Feb 4, 1-4PM) and our Sunday brunch Art of Activism (Feb 5, 1-3PM) with guests from the New GA Project and Planned Parenthood.
